How to Fake Your Location on Snapchat

Snap Map shows your friends where you are. Here are five ways to control what they see on iPhone and Android in 2026, from the built-in Ghost Mode to full GPS spoofing.

how to fake location on snapchat

Snapchat uses your phone's GPS for two things that matter: the location your Bitmoji appears on Snap Map (visible to your friends), and the geofilters or location stickers you can add to snaps. Both pull from system GPS, both can be fooled, and Snapchat does almost no detection compared to Tinder or Pokemon GO.

Here are the five methods that work in 2026, ranked by how easy they are to set up.

Method 1: Ghost Mode (Easiest, Both Platforms)

Ghost Mode is Snapchat's built-in way to disappear from Snap Map. Your Bitmoji is hidden from everyone, no need to spoof anything.

Steps

  1. Open Snapchat, swipe down from the camera to open Snap Map.
  2. Tap the gear icon at the top right of the map.
  3. Toggle Ghost Mode on. Pick a duration (3 hours, 24 hours, or until I turn it off).

Best for: hiding your real location without faking one. Friends see no Bitmoji at all.

Method 2: Only My Friends (Selective Hiding)

If you want most friends to see you but hide from specific people, this is cleaner than Ghost Mode.

  1. Open Snap Map, tap the gear icon.
  2. Choose "My Friends, Except" and pick the people you want to hide from.
  3. Save. They see no Bitmoji. Everyone else sees your real location.

Method 3: Android Mock Location (Free Spoof)

Android's built-in mock location framework plus a free Fake GPS app makes your Bitmoji appear anywhere in the world. Snapchat reads system GPS like any other app and does no mock-location flag checking, so this works cleanly.

Steps

  1. Settings, About phone, tap Build number 7 times to unlock Developer Options.
  2. Install "Fake GPS Location" by Lexa or "GPS JoyStick" from Play Store.
  3. Settings, System, Developer Options, "Select mock location app," pick the fake GPS app.
  4. Open the fake GPS app, pick a spot (Paris, Tokyo, your friend's street, anywhere), hit Start.
  5. Open Snapchat. Your Bitmoji is now at the fake spot. Geofilters for that area also unlock.

Method 4: iPhone USB Spoofer

iPhone needs a USB cable spoofer to change system GPS. Tenorshare iAnyGo, iMyFone AnyTo and LocaChange all work on iOS 26 after their late-2025 patches. Pricing $9.99-$19.99/month or $60-$80 lifetime.

  1. Install the spoofer on your Mac or PC.
  2. Plug your iPhone in. Trust the computer if prompted.
  3. In the spoofer app, search for or pin the location you want.
  4. Click "Modify location" or "Start."
  5. Open Snapchat. Bitmoji moves to the fake spot.

Snapchat does not actively detect spoofers, so there is no penalty. The fake position stays as long as the spoofer is running. Geofilters in the fake area unlock.

Method 5: Send a Fake Location in a Snap or Chat

Snapchat does not have a native "share location" button in chats, but you can send a location pin as a photo or a link. The trick is making the snap look real.

If you are on iPhone

Location Changer drops a pin anywhere in the world and generates a card with the address, coordinates, elevation and Apple Maps link. Screenshot the card and send it as a snap, or copy the link and paste it in the Snapchat chat (Snapchat renders pasted URLs as previews).

If you are on Android

Open Google Maps, long-press the spot, share the pin link, paste in Snapchat chat. Or screenshot the map and send as a snap.

Drop a Pin Anywhere, Share It on iPhone

Location Changer turns any spot on the world map into a shareable card with the address, exact coordinates and elevation, plus a real Apple Maps link. Send it in a Snapchat chat, screenshot it for a snap, or share to iMessage, WhatsApp, Mail. Free iPhone app.

Can Snapchat Detect Fake Location?

Snapchat does very little spoofing detection. The app trusts the GPS the OS hands over and rarely cross-references with IP or Wi-Fi. There is no public ban policy for spoofed Snap Map positions. The biggest risk is your friends noticing the inconsistency (you said you were at home, your Bitmoji is in Bangkok).

One subtle thing Snapchat does check: rapid teleporting. If your Bitmoji jumps continents within seconds, Snap Map sometimes refuses to update for a while. Move at realistic speeds or set a fixed spot and leave it.

FAQ

Will my friends know I am using Ghost Mode?

No notification is sent. They will just stop seeing your Bitmoji on the map. Anyone who looks closely may notice.

Can I unlock geofilters from another city?

Yes. Any spoof method (3 or 4) unlocks the geofilters from the fake area. This is one of the most common reasons to spoof Snapchat.

Does Snapchat ban for fake GPS?

Effectively never. Unlike Pokemon GO or Tinder, Snapchat does not appear to ban accounts for spoofed locations. Be reasonable with teleport speeds.

Does Snap Map update in real time?

It updates each time you open Snapchat. If the app is closed, your last reported location stays visible for several hours.
