iPhone has six real ways to hide your location, ranging from a sledgehammer (Location Services off entirely) to surgical (per-app, per-context permissions). Pick by what you actually want to block.
Method 1: Disable Location Services Entirely
Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, toggle off. No app on the iPhone gets location. Maps stops working, weather defaults to manual location, Find My goes dark.
Use this only if you want a total blackout for a short time.
Method 2: Per-App Permissions (Surgical)
Settings, Privacy & Security, Location Services, scroll to the app you want to limit. Options:
- Never: app gets nothing.
- Ask Next Time: app gets a one-time temporary access.
- While Using: app gets location only when open in foreground.
- Always: background access.
For privacy, set strict apps (Tinder, Snap, Instagram) to "While Using" or "Never."
Method 3: Precise vs. Approximate Location
For each app you can also toggle Precise Location off. With it off, the app gets an approximate area (a few square miles) instead of exact GPS. Tinder, Bumble, weather apps work fine with approximate.
Method 4: Stop Find My Sharing
Find My, Me tab, Share My Location off. Or remove individual people. Your circle sees "No location available" for you.
Method 5: Ghost Mode on Snap Map
Snapchat, swipe down to Snap Map, gear icon, Ghost Mode on. Your Bitmoji disappears from Snap Map.
Method 6: Share a Fake Location Instead
Sometimes hiding raises more suspicion than showing the "wrong" location. If someone asks where you are and you do not want to lie outright but also do not want to share real coordinates, send a believable nearby spot.
Location Changer (free iPhone app) drops a pin anywhere on the world map and generates a clean Apple Maps card with the auto-detected address, exact coordinates and elevation. Share to iMessage, WhatsApp, Mail. Recipient sees a real-looking location preview.
Send a Nearby Public Spot Instead of Hiding
Location Changer drops a pin anywhere on the world map and shares a real Apple Maps card with address, coordinates and elevation. Free.

FAQ
Will turning off Location Services notify any app?
No push notifications. Apps that rely on location simply fail silently. Find My circle sees "No location available."
Can I hide my location from one specific person?
Yes in Find My (remove that person). For Snap Map, use "My Friends, Except" and pick them.
Will GPS work for Maps if I turn off Location Services?
No. Maps relies on Location Services. Better to leave it on and restrict per-app.
